Appointments at Colwell Medical Centre

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO PATIENTS

THIS BRANCH SURGERY WILL BE CLOSING FROM THE END OF TUESDAY MARCH 31ST UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

 

In light of the additional pressures on staffing and resources caused by the Coronavirus pandemic the partners have decided to centralise services at the main practice premises at Westcotes Health Centre. This will continue until it is possible to re-open this branch surgery.

Patient care will continue to be provided from Westcotes Health Centre to all Colwell Surgery patients.

  • All telephone calls will automatically be diverted to Westcotes.
  • Patients may continue to telephone 0116 2621579 as before.
  • Post will be collected daily including any prescription and sick note requests.
  • Patients who need to be seen by a health professional will be seen at Westcotes. However a lot of our current work is being conducted over the telephone to avoid unnecessary contact.
  • We will try to utilise the electronic prescription service as much as possible to ensure that patients do not have to travel unnecessary distances to collect their medication.
  • Sick notes and other correspondence will need to be collected from Westcotes.

Please be reassured that this is a temporary situation in response to unprecedented circumstances and that we intend to resume normal service to our patients as soon as possible

To make an appointment, please telephone or call in at the surgery where you are registered and normally attend. We operate an appointment system at both surgeries and do our best to see you at the time you have been given. However, some patients from time to time need longer with the doctor/nurse than others, so please be patient if we are running a little late.
Our appointment systems works very well in general, provided the users comply. We do emphasise the importance of punctuality and the cancellation of any unnecessary appointments. Failure to do so causes delays within the system and dissatisfaction for other patients who have to wait.

The majority of our appointments need to be pre-booked and this can be done up to six weeks in advance.

Cancellations

If, before your appointment, you no longer need to see the doctor or nurse, then please ring the practice to let us know. We will then be able to offer your slot to another patient.

Emergency Appointments

If you need to be seen urgently, we will always do our best to get you to see a clinician on the same day.We do have two Nurse Practitioners who are qualified to deal with minor illnesses/problems. If the Doctor is extremely busy, you may be offered an appointment with one of them. Help us by telephoning before you come to the surgery, so that we are expecting you and can advise you what time to attend. Please be prepared to wait if the practice is busy on the day.

Out of Hours Information

If our practice is closed and you have a medical condition that cannot wait until the practice opens, please telephone the Surgery and listen carefully to the message giving details of how to contact the duty on call doctor or where to contact for advice.

 

Extended Hours

We understand that some patients may not be able to come in office hours, therefore we also run Extended Hours Clinic on Saturdays 08:30 - 12:30. Please note these are pre-booked appointments not for URGENT appointments. We also offer appointments with HCA and Nurse Practitioner.
